Poker Players Alliance
Poker players in the United States of America will be glad to hear that the Poker Players Alliance are set to step up to the legal table surrounding the freeze of poker funds withdrawn from 2 of the biggest online poker rooms on the internet.
The withdrawn funds have been placed into a state of freezing by the payment processors for both Pokerstars and Full Tilt Poker at the request of the American federal government until the legal case against the gambling of funds within online poker rooms and casinos.
The Poker Players Alliance have issued a statement that assured the 24,000 online players who have been affected by the request, that they will be looking into the issue with great detail to try to work out a way to free up the $30 million that is believed to have been frozen.
John Pappas of the Poker Players Association revealed that the funds were not frozen due to the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act but instead has been frozen in line with a widely read into Wire Act that was revised in 1961.
The Wire Act 1961 aims to information and gambling within the sports betting market.
When asked about the impact that this will have on the online poker boom at PokerStar.com that has been raising towards a peak for well over a year and Pappas was quick to say that the online poker industry has been through this before, with worse cases been overturned so there is no reason for players to quit the industry.
Concerns have been growing within the poker industry due to the actions of the American federal government, feeling that they are using the Wire Act 1961 in such a wide context that the government are almost outside of the act, leaving a bitter taste in the mouth of US based players.
The Poker Players Alliance has advised players that they are looking to withdraw from funds from one of the concerned poker rooms on the internet, they should be looking to use a funds exchange rather than request for a direct transfer from the site to avoid falling into the same issues that 24,000 other players are already experiencing.
How long the legal battle will continue over the absolutepoker download no one knows but one thing is for sure, with the power of the Poker Players Alliance, a 1 million strong group of poker players, the government will not have an easy case on their hands.
